The XIV th Spring Meeting of Young Economists (SMYE-2009) will be convened in Istanbul the city of Bosporus which combines Europe (Thrace) and Asia (Anatolia), and is thereby the only metropolis in the world which is situated on two continents.It is a natural gateway offering a friendly welcome with genuine hospitality.

  The annual SMYE conferences intend to give non-tenured young economists such as PhD students, post-docs, and assistant professors, a chance to meet, present and discuss their work and cover every area of economics.

  This year SMYE it is kindly hosted within the Marmara University, Istanbul from April 23 to 25, 2009. After the first SMYE held in University of Essen through the ones held in such universities; University of Munich, Humbolt University, Universities of Amsterdam, Oxford, Copenhagen and Sorbonne, it was a rather small gathering of young economists, but it has now grown large. The 11 th Spring Meeting in Seville, Spain had 200 participants whereas over 800 applied and over 600 applied to University of Hamburg and University of Lille 2. Therefore to maintain the relaxed and cosy atmosphere, and to prevent the anonymity large conferences might suffer from, the number of participants will not exceed 200 in Istanbul either.

  Marmara University has many centers throughout Istanbul however the conference is held at the Gztepe Main Campus and the registration will be opened in the Haydarpasha Campus in which a huge historical building the faculty of law. This conference is also focused to provide a European platform, nonetheless participation from all over the world is invited. Therefore young economists from Eastern Europe and Baltic States are greatly encouraged to take part at the conference, a limited number of grants covering transport and accommodation expenses are also available. Upon acceptance of a paper, participants can apply for a travel grant under the condition that support cannot be received from their home institution. Applications to the grants should be e-mailed to the Local Organizing Committee.
